Working lunch with a delegation from Puerto Rico at Casa de América

The delegation, led by the Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce, Sebastián Negrón, met with patrons and partners of the Foundation to continue strengthening the already close relationship between Puerto Rico and Spain

7 November 2025

This Friday, the Fundación Consejo España–EE. UU. hosted a high-level delegation from Puerto Rico at the Salón de Embajadores of Casa de América, led by the Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce, Sebastián Negrón.

The public-private delegation visited Spain this week to take part in the Smart City Expo and to hold several institutional and business meetings in Barcelona and Madrid.

The meeting, attended by the Foundation’s patrons and partners, provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between Spain and Puerto Rico and to explore new avenues for collaboration in areas such as innovation, economic development, and investment on the island.

Secretary Negrón described the Fundación Consejo España–EE. UU. as “one of the most recognized institutions in the field of public diplomacy” between Spain and the United States, encouraging attendees to launch new initiatives with Puerto Rico and to continue strengthening existing ones.

Fernando Prieto, Secretary General of the Fundación Consejo España–EE. UU., took the opportunity to highlight the deep ties that unite Puerto Rico and Spain, emphasizing the Spanish language as a shared and unifying element, as well as the profound cultural and historical heritage that continues to connect both societies.

Although she was unable to attend the meeting, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer González, also expressed her appreciation for the essential role played by the Fundación in keeping the bonds between Spain and Puerto Rico alive.
