U.S. Young Leaders 2024

Madrid and Seville, from April 7 to 12

The 2024 delegation’s agenda was packed with carefully selected activities to allow visitors to get to know Spain from multiple perspectives. Meetings and receptions by high-level authorities and business leaders were combined with more recreational visits to highlight the country’s diversity.

In Madrid, they were received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation by Diego Martínez Belío, Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, and Ambassador Julissa Reynoso did the same at the U.S. Embassy in Spain.

The President of the Spain-US Council Foundation, Josu Jon Imaz, welcomed them at a special luncheon held at Casa de America.

They also had the opportunity to meet with Charles Powell during their visit to the Elcano Royal Institute, who spoke to them about the Spanish reality and its role in Europe and the world today.

Journalists Anna Bosch and Lorenzo Milá were also in charge of explaining how they reported on the United States to Spain while they were correspondents in Washington, D.C. This was completed with a visit to the RTVE headquarters in Torrespaña.

The agenda also included interesting visits to ICEX, ECOALF, AECID, CaixaBank and Madrid City Hall. In addition to the visits, the young leaders participated in a round table discussion organized by the Aspen Institute entitled ‘Sustainability and Fair Social Growth’.

The visitors also enjoyed the immense artistic heritage of Madrid with a guided tour of the Museo del Prado.

Once in Seville, they visited the Archivo General de Indias accompanied by the deputy director general, Guillermo Morán, and observed first-hand part of the legacy of the Spanish presence in the Americas. The Agencia Andaluza de Energía or the accelerator for startups Andalucía Open Future were other places they visited. All this, of course, in addition to enjoying a flamenco show, an oil tasting among olive trees and a tour of the city and its impressive cathedral.
